One of the reasons I have moved into my current place was to have enough room to invite people over. So I did last year.
Almost a year later, I decided to have another party.  Frankly, I would love to have people come over more frequently.  It’s just, everyone is so busy, and we have to make arrangements quite in advance.
So, I really didn’t pick the date because my birthday is in May.  May in Japan is like July in California and in Europe – very dry, sunny, a bit cool in the evening, pleasant, and just perfect for a long evening soiree.
We had a good mix of people yesterday, with great food and wine and conversation.

My friends brought a birthday cake for me! (no use of counting candles – it doesn’t tell you my age.)

Having a party every once in a while is very good for your home.  All your plates and glasses and cutleries get to be cleaned up completely and get to be used.  An artwork in your home to be appreciated once again.

Today, after I cleaned up my kitchen, I picked up this book (a 20 year-old essay by a Japanese film director on French cuisine) at a library, cooked 6 bottles of lemon jam, ate a lot of leftovers, and just relaxing.
