Cotton and Linen 夏糸の苦難。

I think I am trying to pretend that I don’t have tons of work for amirisu in front of me.
Yes, I know. That’s why I have been reading and knitting quite a lot these days.
After finishing Kage, the linen pullover, I spent a couple of days figuring out what to knit next. There is a high chance that I can knit two more pieces this summer. What should they be?

たぶん現実逃避をしているので、最近よく編みよく読んでいます。食べるのが億劫なのは、やることが山積みで気分が乗らないからだと思います。amirisuの締め切りが近づくと不思議と編み物が捗り、めっきり運動不足になります。

先週Kageを完成させてから数日間、次に何を編もうか大分考えあぐねました。夏物って難しいですよね。時節を逃したらまた来年まで着れなくなるし、夏糸は編みにくいので出来るだけ苦行は減らしたいし、夏らしいサラッとしたものを編みたい。

この夏はもしかしたらあと２つ編めるのではないかという気がして、なんとかパターンをセレクト。

I used to enter data of all my stash on Ravelry, but not any more. Sometimes I wish I had done it, but things have become out of control a long time ago…let’s forget about the yarn I cannot remember.

It’s always fun to empty my yarn basket before starting a new project. Obviously, I love gray, pinks/reds, and teal-ish colors.

以前はRavelryに持っている毛糸をすべてデータ化していたのですが、いつかサボったらもう収拾がつかなくなりました。全部載せたら本当に便利だと思うんだけど。。。思い出せない毛糸は無かったことにしよう。

何を編むか考える時は、まずバスケットをひっくり返して中身を探索するところから。グレー、ピンク・赤系、青緑系が多いですね。黄色や青、グリーンはすぐに使ってしまうから残ってないのかもしれません。

結局、以前から編みたかったこれを編むことに決定。

I love the navy color in every form of garment I have. I have jackets, dresses, pants, T-shirts, dress shirts, and a bag in navy, so why not a cardigan?

で、ピエロさんのコットンニートでゲージを取ったところ、多少小さめだけどほぼOK。これは適当に伸びるので、あまり細かいことは気にしないことにします。腕周りだけきつくないように。

The second one was more tricky.  I finally decided to knit this one:

そして2つ目。暫くぶりに見てみたら、パターンがリリースされていました。ディテールが面白いので、編みたいなと思っていたのです。

写真ではよく見えませんが、身体にフィットしたデザインで後ろには縦ラインが一本、そして両サイドにはギャザー。

It’s in sports weight, with a gauge of 24 stitches and 32 rows in US 5 needles, which turned out to be really hard to get.

This snowy gray yarn is the second yarn I swatched with.  It was so wrong. The gauge was too big.

Sportsの太さの糸で24目x32段というのがゲージ(ゲージというのは10cm角の試し編みです）。でもこれが中々難しかった！

最初試したリネンの糸は、細いにも関わらず糸が固くて全然ゲージが合わなかった。下のホワイト系の糸は2つ目。これもゲージ大きすぎ！

そして無理矢理合わせて編むことも考えたのですが、これウールが入っていないので伸びそうなのです。身体にフィットしたデザインを編むには、たとえゲージが合っても不向きの糸らしい。

Another yarn I tried – but too bulky.

こちらも太すぎ。

You see, these three yarns look almost the same in terms of thickness. Left one is silk/merino, middle one is cotton and viscose, and the last one 100% cotton. The result? Completely different.

この下の３つ、見た目的には殆ど一緒に見えるけど、素材が違うせいで針との相性も編み上がりも全然変わっちゃいます。左はシルク・ウール、真ん中はヴィスコースとコットン、右はコットン100%なので重く厚めの生地になっちゃう。

In the end, I decided to go for the silk merino, but did not like the color.  I ended up picking this purple yarn that I had intended to use for something else.  So, this was longest yarn selection process I’ve ever gone through.  I guess it means I had grown as a knitter. Don’t you agree?

結局シルクウールに決めたのですが色が気に入らず、ゲージを取ったあと、別のものを編もうと思っていた紫色に変えました。ゲージを取るのにこんなに時間をかけたのは初めて。それも編みもの上達したっていうことかな？

Finally, the recent FO. I am wearing it now, and it’s light and perfect.

下は、やっと出来上がったKage (影）。今着ていますが、軽くてサラッとしていて完璧。
