I had hit upon this beautiful idea to buy a few dollars of flowers a few times a week, instead of buying a bunch at a time, which could cost about 20 dollars but would only last a week. Then the other day, I found this branch of camelia with lots of buds at a not-so-fancy flower shop in the neighborhood. Camelia is one of my most favorite flowers. It may not be a popular choice among all the flowers in the world, but, don’t you love trees with lots of flowers? If you haven’t followed us on Facebook yet, please Like us from here. こんにちは！ Facebookで既にご覧になったかもしれませんが、amirisuの次号は来週土曜日リリース予定です。 そちらにはイベント情報もありますので、FacebookページをLikeしてくださいね。 まあつまり、只今作業が佳境に入っておりまして、色々と追いついていません。 本当は2月1日にリリースするつもりが、急に出張が入ってしまって予定変更となりました。 でもまだ寒いし、春ものを編むにはちょっと早いですよね。大雪だし。 （今日は雪の中大はしゃぎしてしまいました。きっと、みなさんも。） サンノゼ出張の合間に、サンフランシスコとベイエリアを散策してきました。 わたしにとってのハイライトは、なんといってもMuir Woods。大学院でアメリカ、特にベイエリアのパークシステムとグリーンウェイの研究をしていたので、ベイエリアの公園は知り尽くしていたわたし（もう忘れた）。 そのなかでずっと憧れていたのがMuir Woodsです。John Muirはナチュラリストでシエラクラブの創始者、ヨセミテ国立公園などの国立公園設立に関わり、アメリカの自然保護の父といえる存在。John Muirにちなんで名付けられたMuir Woodsは、実は地元の実業家がこの地域のレッドウッドを保全するために土地を買い取り、国に寄贈して設立されました。 ずっとこのレッドウッドを見てみたかったのと、John Muirの著作の断片を色々なところで目にしていたので、その思索、文学、トレイルを歩くこと、自然主義的カルチャー全体にとても憧れていて。 Last week, I took a business trip to San Jose, and spent some time in San Francisco area in between. Jet lagged. Up before dawn. While in San Francisco, I missed the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition by 2 weeks (I mean, it won’t start until Feb 15). To recover from my self pity, I bought 2 books on Amazon – Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch, and A painter’s Kitchen: Recipes from the Kitchen of Georgia O’Keeffe. My apartment is a mess, no food in the fridge, ran out of coffee before going to SF, I am at a loss in front of a pile of work I need to get done this weekend. Please pls send me your hugs. 時差ぼけし、日の出より遥か前に起床。 サンフランシスコではSFMOMAが改装中で、De Young Museumでは大好きなオキーフの展覧会を２週間の差で逃す（２週間早過ぎた）。あまりにも悲しかったので、アマゾンで「オキーフの家」と「オキーフのレシピ集(A Painter’s Kitchen: Recipes from the Kitchen of Georgia O’keeffe)」という本を買いました。画集は既に持っているので。でも考えてみたら、若い頃になけなしのお金で買った薄い画集ではなくて、もっと分厚いものを持っていても良かったのかも。 荷解き途中なので部屋はぐちゃぐちゃ（途中で寝てしまった）、食べ物もないし、コーヒーも旅行前に飲みきってしまったし、大量の仕事をまえに呆然としています。 どうか、ハグや激励を送ってください。
Writing postcards feels like an art that is fading into dark shadow. There was a time when postcards was a key part of traveling, transition of seasons, and life events. These days, I cannot even convince those front desk clerks at hotels to mail some postcards for me. I am at page 633 of the 771 page book – the Goldfinch. Things get weirder and weirder, more disturbing as I turn a page. Yet it is hard to put down the book. Happy New Year! あけましておめでとうございます。 日本語で書くと、平仮名が続いてなんとも座りの悪い、だからといって「御目出度う」と漢字で書くのも格好悪い、と子供の頃から悩み続けているお正月です。 一週間暮らした鎌倉から帰宅しました。鎌倉は暖かかった。意外と海が好きな自分も発見しました。 昨日の元日は豪風のなか海まで散歩に出かけ、塩と砂を浴びながら、楽しい気持ちで写真を撮りまくりました。 今朝、鎌倉の家に置いてあった「湘南スタイル」という雑誌を見ていると、サーフィンをやっている女性向けに「髪を日焼けから守るケア」というような記事があって、ふーん、そうだよねー、と面白く思っていたところ、東京への帰路に買ったアヴェダの福袋に「ヘア用の日焼け止めオイル」なるものが入っていて、何かのサインかという気がしてきました。これを使えってことでしょうか。 今日生まれて初めて、「住む場所を決めるのに通勤時間を気にしたことは一度も無かった」という方にお会いして、カルチャーショック的なものを受ける。ただ自分は男性と違って体力がないし、電車もそれほど好きではないので、実際にやるとなったら覚悟が必要でしょうけど。 I came back from Kamakura, a seaside city about 1.5 hours down south of Tokyo, where I had spent a week with my family. Although my general preference is mountains and lakes and snowy weather over beaches and sun, I came to realize that Kamakura would be a very realistic choice if I want to keep my day job. Change of scenery. My family has rented a house down south by the sea. Technically, we are 20 minutes away from the beach, overlooking a great view. Friends of mine have started this trial to rent a house by the week for people who want to live in the area. We were very lucky that this week’s slot became available, because someone cancelled at the last minute. Some of my relatively new friends may not know, but it usually takes a giant push to get me out of my apartment. I love staying at home, cancelling all the appointments, and just read. So, I think I have achieved quite a lot this year in this perspective. I (together with Tokuko) published two issues of amirisu, have established an LLP, traveled more than 4 weeks in total, started a new job, translated two books, made lords of new friends. I’ve traveled to many places, some of which are among my life list. Kanazawa, Naoshima Island, Cape Cod, Seattle, Portland, Seoul, Tokachi in Hokkaido, Itoshiro Village… and a few times to Kyoto as well. These days I feel like I am coming closer to another crossroad…

久しぶりに完成！ デンマーク人の手編みニットデザイナー、マリアンネ・イサガーさんに頂いたキットを使い、リストウォーマーを編みました。シンプルながら良くできたデザインで、怠け者のわたしでも、２つ編むのが苦になりませんでした。 小作品ながら糸も細く、糸始末の鬼と戦ったところが一番大変だったかな。手に取ると薄くて頼りないのですが、軽くて温かいです。このキット、買えるようになったらまたお知らせしますね。 FO! A pair of wrist warmers, designed by Danish knitwear designer, Marianne Isagar. Marianne gave me a kit several weeks ago when I visited her trunk show. The pattern was well written, a lot of fun to knit. Knitting a pair was not painful at all. The only battle I had to win was against the “weave in ends” demon. That was a tough one, even though the pieces are small. I hope you get to buy this kit sometimes soon – I will let you know when that happens. そして、長らく編んでいるIn The Skyの袖と身頃がやっと編み終わりました（下）。次はゴム編み。ふあ〜、やっとここまで来た、という感じです。引き続き頑張ります。 Also, I finally finished the main body/sleeves part of In The Sky (below). 忍び足で年の瀬が近づいてきました。 まだ年を越せる状況には全然なく、めまぐるしい、というよりむしろ目が回る日々です。 仕事に関してはかなりキッチリしっかりしている妹が「子供ができてからやることが多くて忘れっぽくなった」と言っていたのを思い出しました。私は残念ながら子供のころから物忘れ大王だったため、こんなに多くのことを回していて取りこぼしが無いはずがありません。メモを取っていても追いついていないです。もっとリスト化の鬼にならなければ、と気持ちを新たにする今日この頃。 以前は１号が終わってから次の号の準備をしていたのですが、それでは回らなくなって2号同時並行になりました。今は4号の編集と、５号の企画と、リトリートと、広告と、宣伝と、商品の企画と…。これは私がやっている分であって、トクコさんは彼女の仕事がたんまり。最初の号の、２人で全部の作業をやっていたころが、ただし雑誌の作業だけをやっていたころが、ちょっと懐かしく思える。 来年はどうしようかな、と思っている私のような人たちに、２０１４年のプランナーがフリーで公開されているので紹介。 Do What You LoveのNew Year’s Revolution Susannah ConwayのUnraveling the Year Ahead ワークブック 去年の今頃、Susannahのワークブックに書き入れながら、この１年どんな年になるのだろうと不安に思っていた自分を思い出しました。来年はどんな年になるのだろう。 それから、今日見たこのニューヨークのクリエーターのアトリエが大好きで、次に引っ越す時は朝日の入る東向きのお部屋を探そうと決意。 雪の写真を眺めては、また今年も雪の北海道に行きたいなーと夢見ています。でもなんと、３月までもう週末がかなり埋まってきてしまい。来年はもっとのんびりと過ごしたいというのも夢ですね。 I discovered that the year end is coming very close.
